Online or In-Person: The Same Care, Wherever You Are
Whether you are in Varanasi or anywhere across India, distance should never stand between your child and the help they deserve. Here is how I make sure it does not.
I receive messages from parents all over India. From big cities and small towns, from places with good therapists nearby and places with almost none. And so often, woven into their words, there is a quiet fear: “We are too far away. The help our child needs is somewhere else, out of reach.”
I understand that fear deeply, and I want to take it away. Because the truth is, your location does not have to decide your child’s future. As one of the most trusted speech therapists and special educators in India, I work with families both in person here in Varanasi and online across the entire country, and I promise you this: the care is the same. The warmth is the same. The results are real, either way.
Let me explain how both work, so you can choose what fits your family with confidence.
Why online therapy genuinely works
I know what many parents worry about. “Can therapy really work through a screen? Surely my child needs to be in the same room?” It is a fair question, and I want to answer it honestly, not just reassuringly.
Online therapy genuinely works, and for many children, remarkably well. This is not wishful thinking; it is something I see with my own eyes, week after week, with families across India. There is even strong research showing that remote speech therapy can be just as effective as in-person sessions. But let me tell you the real reason it works so well, because it is not what you might expect.
Online therapy works because it brings you, the parent, right into the heart of every session.
When we meet online, you are there, beside your child. And because you are there, I guide you through the activities in real time. You are not waiting outside a door; you are learning to help your child as we go. This turns out to be a tremendous strength, because, as I explain in how I work with you, not just your child, a child’s biggest progress comes from the parent continuing the work at home. Online sessions make you a confident partner by necessity, and that often accelerates progress beautifully.
Your child also learns in their own familiar, comfortable home, surrounded by their own things, which can help anxious children feel safe enough to engage. And after each session, I share simple activities for you to continue, just as I would in person.
The real advantages of online sessions
Let me lay out plainly why online works so well for so many families.
There is no travel, which means no exhausting journeys for an already tired family, and no stress for a child who finds new places overwhelming. It means consistency is easier, because nothing gets in the way of showing up, and consistency matters enormously in this work.
You are involved in every single session, which makes you a stronger partner and your child’s progress faster. The timings are flexible, fitting around your family’s real life. And distance simply disappears. Whether you are in Mumbai or a small town in Bihar, you have access to the same care a family in Varanasi would receive.
For a great many children, online sessions are not a compromise or a lesser option. They are a wonderful, effective way to get real help, wherever you live.
The worries parents have about online, answered honestly
Let me address, plainly, the specific worries I hear most often about online sessions, because I would rather answer them honestly than gloss over them.
“My child will not sit in front of a screen.” This is a fair worry, especially for young or restless children. But here is the thing: my online sessions are not about your child staring at a screen like watching television. They are active and playful, and crucially, you are right there beside your child, helping them engage. I guide the activities to suit your child’s attention span, and we build it gently. Many parents are surprised how well their child takes to it once they see how it actually works.
“My child is non-verbal, surely they need to be in the room.” Not at all. So much of early communication work is about connection, gestures, sounds, and routines, all of which translate beautifully online, especially with you there as my hands and my partner in the room. Some of the most moving breakthroughs I have witnessed, including a child saying their first word, have happened in online sessions.
“I am not good with technology.” You do not need to be. If you can make a video call to a relative, you can do this. It is simple, and I help you set it up. The technology fades into the background very quickly, and what remains is simply me, you, and your child, working together.
“It cannot be as good as being in the same room.” I understand why it feels that way, but the evidence and my own experience say otherwise. For many children, the fact that they are in their own comfortable home, with their own parent actively involved, makes online sessions every bit as effective, and sometimes more so. The care, the attention, and the results are real.
What you need for online sessions
The practical side is wonderfully simple, and I want to reassure you here too.
You need only a smartphone, tablet, or computer with a camera, a reasonably stable internet connection, and a quiet-ish space where your child can engage without too many distractions. That is genuinely all. You do not need special equipment, software you have to buy, or any technical skill. I guide you through everything, and I keep it as simple as possible.
I will also let you know if there are any small, everyday items from around your home that would be helpful to have ready for a particular session, things you almost certainly already own, like a favourite toy, some picture books, or a small mirror. Nothing you need to go out and purchase. The beauty of online work is that we use your child’s own familiar world, which is exactly where they feel safest and learn best.
The warmth of in-person sessions in Varanasi
For families in and around Varanasi, in-person sessions offer their own special qualities, and I love them just as much.
In person, I am right there beside your child, with all my hands-on materials, toys, picture cards, and activities laid out and ready. There is a particular kind of connection in sharing the same physical space, and for some children, especially those who need a lot of sensory, hands-on engagement, being in the room together is wonderful.
In-person sessions take place in a calm, safe, structured space, free of the distractions of home. Some children focus better this way. And there is a warmth in face-to-face presence, in a reassuring hand, a shared smile across a small table, that is simply lovely.
Both ways, you remain my partner. Even in person, I do not shut you out the way a big centre often does. You stay informed, involved, and equipped to continue the work at home.
You can even combine the two
Here is something many parents do not realise: you are not locked into one choice forever. The arrangement can flex with your family’s life.
Some families begin in person and later shift to online when life changes, perhaps they move city, or travel becomes harder, or they simply find the online rhythm suits them better. Others begin online and add occasional in-person sessions when they are able to travel to Varanasi. And for some, a mix works beautifully from the start.
What matters is that your child keeps receiving consistent, devoted care, and that consistency, as I have learned over many years, is one of the most important ingredients in a child’s progress. The mode can change. The quality, the warmth, and my commitment to your child never do. We will find the arrangement that gives your child the steadiest, most sustainable support for your real life, and we can adjust it together whenever your circumstances change.
This flexibility is one of the quiet advantages of working with an individual rather than a rigid institution. I can shape things around your family, rather than asking your family to bend around a fixed system.
How to know which is right for your child
So which should you choose? The honest answer is that it depends on your child and your family, and you do not have to figure it out alone. Here is some gentle guidance.
Online may suit you best if you live outside Varanasi, if travel is difficult or stressful, if your child feels safest at home, or if you want the flexibility and consistency that comes with no travel. Many families across India thrive with online sessions.
In-person may suit you best if you are in or near Varanasi, if your child responds especially well to hands-on, physical engagement, or if you prefer the structure of a dedicated space away from home distractions.
And if you are genuinely unsure, that is completely fine. This is one of the things we can talk through together in your free first consultation. I will help you think it through honestly, based on your specific child, and we will choose together. You can read about what that first conversation is like in your free first consultation, explained.
The promise that holds true either way
Here is what I most want you to take from this. Whichever way we work, online or in person, my promises to you do not change.
Either way, your child gets my full, undivided, one-to-one attention. Either way, I build a plan made only for your child. Either way, I am honest with you, I keep you involved, and I treat your child as my own. These commitments, which I describe fully in the Priyanka Promise, are not reserved for in-person families. They belong to every child I work with, in every corner of India.
The screen does not dilute the care. The distance does not dilute the warmth. A child in a far-off town receives the same devotion as a child sitting across from me in Varanasi. That is my commitment, and I hold to it completely.
So please, do not let your location convince you that good help is out of reach. It is not. Wherever you are in India, your child’s voice matters to me, and I would be honoured to help them find it.

Whichever mode fits your family, the substance is the same: proper assessment, an individual plan, genuine engagement with your child, and you involved throughout. Distance changes the screen, not the standard. Choose the format that your life can sustain, because consistency, in the end, matters more than geography.
