How I Work With You, Not Just Your Child

Most therapy leaves parents waiting outside the door. Here is why I bring you all the way in, and why it changes everything for your child.

Let me describe a scene you might recognise painfully well.

If you have felt shut out before, you may know this feeling:

  • Handing your child over at a door, learning nothing
  • A quick “the session went well” and no real answers
  • Not knowing how to help your own child at home

You take your child to therapy. You hand them over at the door. You sit in a waiting room, or you go and run errands and come back. An hour later, your child is returned to you, and you are given a quick “the session went well.” You drive home knowing almost nothing. What did they actually do? How did your child respond? Is anything improving? What could you do at home? You have no idea. You love your child more than anyone on earth, and yet you have somehow been made into an outsider in their own care.

If that scene is familiar, I want you to know it does not have to be that way. In fact, I built my entire approach to be the opposite of it. Because in eight years as one of the most trusted speech therapists and special educators in India, I have learned one thing beyond all doubt: when I work with the parent, not just the child, children progress far, far faster.

So let me explain how, and why, I bring you all the way in.

The simple maths that changes everything

Here is a number worth sitting with. In a typical week, I might spend a few hours with your child. You spend all the rest, more than a hundred waking hours.

So ask yourself honestly: where does most of your child’s learning actually happen? Not in my few hours. In your hundred. Every meal, every bath, every walk, every bedtime is a chance for communication and growth. The real work of a child’s development does not happen in a therapy room. It happens in a home, with a parent.

This means that if I keep you outside the process, I am ignoring where ninety percent of the opportunity lives. But if I bring you in, train you, and turn your everyday moments into gentle practice, I multiply your child’s progress enormously. The few hours with me become the seed. Your hundred hours become the soil and the sunshine. That is how children truly bloom.

This realisation, which a hundred children taught me over the years and which I describe in what eight years have taught me, is the foundation of everything I do.

What “working with you” actually looks like

This is not just a nice idea. It is a set of concrete practices. Here is what working with me actually involves for you.

I explain everything in plain words. From the start, I tell you what we are working on with your child and why, in simple language, never hidden behind confusing jargon. You will genuinely understand your child’s plan, because you are part of it, not a spectator to it. Being clear and honest with you is one of the promises I keep with every family.

I give you simple things to do at home. After our sessions, I share gentle, doable activities that fit naturally into your daily routine. Not a heavy homework burden, not complicated exercises, just small, smart ways to weave practice into the life you already live. A particular way of asking a question at dinner. A little game during bath time. A way of responding when your child tries to communicate. Small things, done often, that quietly add up.

I teach you, not just instruct you. There is a difference between being handed a list and being genuinely taught. I help you understand why each activity works, so that you can adapt it, recognise the moments to use it, and grow more confident over time. My goal is for you to become more skilled and more confident as your child’s most important teacher.

I keep you honestly updated. You will always know how your child is really doing, the genuine progress and the honest challenges, not a vague “all is well.” And I welcome your questions, all of them, however small they feel to you.

I support you, too. This is the part many people forget. Raising a child who needs extra support is hard, and it can be lonely and frightening. I am not only here for your child. I am here for you, to reassure you, to help you find your hope, to remind you of how far you have both come. You can read more about that side of my work in meeting the person behind the therapy.

What home practice actually looks like (it is gentler than you fear)

When I tell parents I will give them things to do at home, I sometimes see a flash of worry cross their face. They imagine hours of difficult exercises, a heavy burden piled on top of an already full life. So let me put that fear to rest, because home practice with me is nothing like that.

The activities I give you are small, gentle, and woven into the life you already live. I am not asking you to set aside an hour of formal teaching every evening. I am asking you to use the ordinary moments you already have, mealtimes, bath time, the walk to the shop, getting dressed, and turn them into tiny opportunities for connection and communication.

For one child, it might be pausing before handing them their favourite snack, giving them a moment to ask for it in whatever way they can. For another, it might be naming things together during bath time, or singing a particular song that encourages sounds. For another, it might be a simple way of responding when they try to communicate, so they feel heard and want to try again. These are small things. They take seconds, not hours. But done consistently, woven naturally into your day, they add up to something powerful.

I also never hand you a list and leave you to struggle. I show you how, I explain why it works, and I adjust it to fit your real life and your particular child. If something is not working, or feels too hard, you tell me, and we change it. This is a partnership, not homework. The goal is never to burden you. It is to gently extend your child’s progress into the hours I am not there, in a way that feels natural and doable for a busy, loving parent.

The difference you will feel

When you work this way, something shifts, and you feel it.

You stop feeling helpless, because you finally understand what is happening and how to help. You stop feeling shut out, because you are genuinely inside your child’s journey. You start noticing the small wins yourself, at home, which fills you with a hope you can actually see with your own eyes. And your relationship with your own child often deepens, because you are no longer just managing them, you are actively helping them grow, and seeing the results of your love in action.

I have watched parents transform through this. Parents who arrived feeling powerless become confident, capable, hopeful partners in their child’s progress. That transformation is one of the most beautiful parts of my work, and it is something the hand-it-over-at-the-door model can never give a family.

Why a big centre often cannot do this

I want to be fair here, because I always try to be honest, as I am in my comparison of individual care and a big centre.

It is not that large centres do not care about parents. It is that their structure often makes this depth of partnership very hard. With many children moving through, with staff rotating, with tight schedules, there is rarely the time or continuity to truly train and walk alongside each parent. The model is built for volume, and deep parent partnership does not scale easily. So parents end up outside the door, not from unkindness, but from the simple limits of a large operation.

As an individual, I do not have that limitation. I deliberately keep my numbers small, as I explain in why I only take children I can truly help, precisely so that I have the time to give both you and your child real, personal attention. Working closely with you is not an extra I squeeze in. It is the heart of how I work.

What I will never do to you as a parent

It feels important to also say plainly what I will never do, because these are the things that have hurt the parents who come to me from elsewhere.

I will never make you feel that your child’s struggles are your fault. Guilt is something almost every parent in your position carries, and it helps no one. You did not cause this, and noticing it and seeking help makes you a good parent, not a failing one.

I will never talk down to you or treat you as if you could not understand your own child’s care. You are intelligent, capable, and the world’s leading expert on your child. I will treat you that way.

I will never leave you confused about what is happening. If you do not understand something, that is my failure to explain, not yours to grasp, and I will explain it again, differently, until it is clear.

And I will never make you feel like a customer rather than a partner. You are not buying a service from me. You are joining me in caring for a child we both want to see flourish. That is a relationship, not a transaction, and I treat it with the respect a relationship deserves.

You are not a bystander. You are the hero.

I want to end with the truth that guides all of this.

In your child’s story, I am not the hero. You are. You are the one who is there every day, every night, through every hard moment and every small victory. You are the one whose love is the constant in your child’s life. I am simply the guide, the one who has walked this path a hundred times and can show you the way, hand you the tools, and walk beside you so you never feel alone.

When I work with you, not just your child, I am honouring the truth that you are the most powerful force in your child’s development. My job is to make you stronger, more confident, and more equipped, so that your love can do its full work.

That is how I work. Never above you. Always beside you. And it is, I believe, a large part of why the children who come to me progress the way they do.

If you would like a partner like that, someone who will bring you all the way in and walk beside you, I would be honoured. We can begin simply, with a free conversation about your child. You can also read what your child’s first month with me would look like, or learn more about who I am.

At every stage, the constant is partnership: you are never a bystander to your child’s progress, and I am never a mystery behind a closed door. We work in the open, together, with your child at the centre, and that, more than any single technique, is what makes the work succeed.

This is part of why families choose me. You can read the full story of why parents pick me for their child, or explore the person behind the therapy.
