Your Free First Consultation: What to Expect and Why It’s Free

The hardest step is the first one. So I have made it free, gentle, and completely without pressure. Here is exactly what happens, and why I do it this way.

I have thought a lot, over the years, about why parents wait so long to reach out for help. And I have come to believe the biggest reason is not money, or doubt about whether therapy works. It is fear of that very first step.

The fears that keep parents from that first call:

  • “What if I am judged?”
  • “What if I am pressured into something expensive?”
  • “What if they confirm my worst fear?”

Picking up the phone. Sending that first message. Saying out loud, to a stranger, “I think my child needs help.” It feels enormous. It feels like crossing a line you cannot uncross. What if they judge you? What if they confirm your worst fear? What if you are pressured into something expensive before you even understand what is happening?

So I made a decision that has shaped my whole practice. I made that first step as easy, as gentle, and as risk-free as I possibly could. Your first consultation with me is completely free. No payment. No obligation. No pressure. Just a caring conversation about your child. And in this article, I want to tell you exactly what happens in it, so that even the fear of the unknown is taken away.

Why I offer it for free

Let me start with the “why,” because I think it matters.

I do not offer a free consultation as a clever marketing trick to lure you in. I offer it because I genuinely believe no parent should have to pay simply to ask for help, or to find out whether I am even the right person for their child. A worried parent is already carrying enough. The least I can do is make the first conversation cost them nothing but a little courage.

There is also a deeper reason, rooted in the honesty I promise every family. Parents across India have come to trust me as one of the best speech therapists and special educators in the country, and that trust has never started with a payment. It has always started with an honest, caring conversation. I will only take on a child if I truly believe I can help them, as I explain in why I only take children I can truly help. The free consultation is how we both find out. It would be wrong to charge you to discover that we are not the right fit. So we talk first, freely, and only continue if it feels right for everyone, most of all your child.

A free first conversation is simply the most honest, caring way I know to begin. It removes the risk entirely and puts your child first, which is exactly where they belong.

What actually happens in the consultation

Let me walk you through it, so there are no surprises.

First and most importantly: I listen. That is the heart of it. I ask you to tell me about your child in your own words, not in medical terms or milestones from a chart, just your child. What they are like. What they love. What worries you. When you first felt something might be different. What others have told you. What you are hoping for, deep down.

I do not rush you. I do not talk over you with impressive jargon. I do not make you feel like one more case. I simply want to understand your child, and understand you, because no expert will ever know your child the way you do.

I will gently ask some questions, to understand your child’s situation more fully. Nothing intrusive, nothing that feels like an interrogation, just a warm conversation that helps me see your child clearly.

And then I will be honest with you. I will share my genuine thoughts about your child’s situation, and whether I believe I can help. If I can, I will explain, in simple terms, what a path forward might look like, much like the first month I describe here. If I believe your child needs something different from what I offer, I will tell you that honestly and point you toward who I would trust instead. Either way, you leave with clarity and direction.

What does NOT happen

I think it helps to also tell you what will not happen, because these are exactly the fears that keep parents from reaching out.

You will not be judged. I have sat with hundreds of parents in exactly your position. Nothing you tell me will shock me or make me think less of you. Reaching out is an act of love, and I see it that way.

You will not be pressured. I will never push you to sign up, never use fear to rush you into a decision, never make you feel trapped. If, after our talk, you decide not to continue, or to take time to think, or to choose someone else entirely, that is completely fine. There is no pressure of any kind.

You will not be handed false hope. I will not promise miracles to win you over. As honesty is one of my deepest promises, I will give you a realistic, caring picture, not an inflated one.

And you will not be asked to pay anything. The consultation is genuinely free, with no hidden costs and no surprise charges afterward.

Why this one conversation matters so much

You might wonder how much can really come from a single free conversation. The answer, in my experience, is a great deal, often far more than parents expect.

For many of the families I have worked with, that first conversation was a turning point in itself, quite apart from any therapy that followed. For some, it was the first time anyone had truly listened to their worries without rushing or dismissing them. For some, it was the first time they understood what might actually be going on with their child, instead of drowning in late-night internet searches. For some, it was simply the first moment in a long while that they did not feel alone with their fear.

That is why I take these conversations so seriously, even though they are free. I am not going through the motions to secure a client. I am offering you my genuine attention and honesty, because I know how much a single caring conversation can mean to a parent who has been carrying worry alone for a long time. Many of the real journeys I have shared began with exactly such a conversation, a frightened parent simply reaching out, and everything good that followed grew from that one brave first step.

So please do not think of it as a small thing, or something you need to “qualify” for, or a sales call to be wary of. Think of it as what it truly is: a warm, honest, no-cost chance to be heard, to understand your child better, and to find out what is possible. Whatever you decide afterward, that conversation alone is worth having.

How to prepare (and why you barely need to)

Parents sometimes ask how they should prepare. The lovely truth is, you barely need to. You are the world’s expert on your own child already. You do not need documents, reports, or rehearsed answers.

If you happen to have any previous reports or assessments, you are welcome to mention them, but they are not required. Mostly, just come as you are, with your honest worries and your love for your child. That is more than enough. If anything, the more openly and honestly you share, the better I can understand how to help. There is nothing to study for and nothing to get right. It is just a conversation between two people who both want the best for your child.

What happens after

After our consultation, the choice is entirely yours, and there is no rush.

If it feels right, and you would like to begin, we take the next gentle step together, getting to know your child properly and building a plan made just for them. You can read about how that unfolds in what your child’s first month with me looks like.

If you would like time to think, take all the time you need. If you would like to talk it over with family, please do. And if you decide I am not the right fit, I wish you and your child nothing but well, with no hard feelings at all. My only goal is that your child gets the right help, from the right person, whoever that turns out to be.

There is no trap here. There is only an open door, and you decide whether and when to walk through it.

And if you do decide to continue, here is my honesty about cost

Because I value honesty so much, I do not want the word “free” to leave you wondering nervously about what comes later. So let me be open about it.

If, after our free consultation, you decide you would like to begin, I will be completely clear and upfront about everything from the start. You will know exactly what the ongoing support involves and what it costs, with no hidden charges, no surprise fees, and no pressure tactics. What you see is what you pay. I believe a worried parent deserves total transparency about money, just as much as they deserve honesty about their child.

And there will never be any pressure to decide on the spot. You can take the information from our conversation, go home, think it over, talk to your family, and decide in your own time. If you choose to begin, wonderful. If you choose to wait, or to look elsewhere, that is genuinely fine. The free consultation comes with no strings attached of any kind. I would far rather you make a calm, informed, unpressured choice than feel rushed into anything. Your trust matters more to me than a quick decision.

The bravest, smallest step

I want to end by speaking directly to the fear that may be sitting in your chest right now.

I know reaching out feels big. I know it might mean admitting something you have been afraid to admit. I know your hands might shake a little as you type the message or dial the number. That is okay. That fear does not mean something is wrong. It means you love your child enough to face a hard thing for them.

And I have made the step as small and safe as I possibly can. It costs nothing. It commits you to nothing. It is just a warm, honest conversation with someone who has helped a hundred children and who would genuinely love to understand yours. Whatever you decide afterward, you will walk away with more clarity and less fear than you have now. There is truly nothing to lose, and possibly everything to gain.

Your child has a voice. Sometimes the first step toward it is simply a parent brave enough to reach out. When you are ready, even with shaking hands, I am here, waiting warmly, with no pressure and no cost. Just one caring conversation about your child, and the gentle beginning of everything that is possible for them.
